Chicken Run

This summer I am once again a nanny for some of my extended family, and I am watching the same children I watched when I first started this blog. For the next couple of months the kids are on "chicken duty." Their neighbors are at a summer home and left their chickens in our care until they return in August.

On June 12 the kids and I learned about the power in Jesus's name. There was a storm moving in and we need to get the chickens to their coupe. So we tried to get out there before it started to rain and get the chickens put away. But the storm struck and we were out on the land looking for chickens. Julia (one of the 3 kids) pointed out a horse shed thing. [no door, just overhang] so we ran to it because the wind was bending the trees and branches were falling. It was terrifying, but we weren't alone. I told the kids they could join in talking to Jesus with me. We prayed the entire time! Richard reminded us all of Jesus calming the storm. So we waited and trusted that the same thing would happen. It was inspiring to see the raw faith these children had that Jesus was taking care of us and that as they called out his name into the fierce rain, he would calm the storm. Finally the hail stopped, the wind calmed, and the rain let up enough for us to make our way back. On the way back we found the chickens and got them put away and then went home where the electricity had gone out.

That entire time we had been caught in the storm I remember my eyes being shocked with the things I was seeing, but the Lord had given me a peace that transcends all understanding. I was wide eyed and mystified. Later when their dad got home he was telling me that on the radar it was showing white for our region [scale: green, yellow, orange, red, purple, white]. It was scary but the kids learned so much and I know that they'll remember that storm, and those chickens, hahaha!
